Biological Anthropology Collection

The biological anthropology collection consists of 2558 catalogued pieces. It is a modern reference collection on human osteology, with individuals identified as to gender and age group.
This collection, used in the context of training at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, displays a rare and important sample of the population of the north of the country during the period between the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The collection also includes anthropometric instruments used by Mendes Correia and his team in the first half of the 20th century.

During this restructuring phase of the MHNC-UP, the treatment, conservation, and expansion of this collection is being prioritised. This will help to ensure that it is available both to the public and to support research and academic projects.
