Pour ma Sofie
We are pleased to present the first initiative of the year in the scope of the celebration of the centenary of Sophia de Mello Brener Andresen, an unprecedented exhibition of photography, installation and documentary archive, based on Sophia's personal library, produced by Oxana Ianin and curated by Martim Sousa Tavares.
From 2015 to 2018, more than three hundred books with inscriptions to Sophia were identified in this library. These were offered over seven decades by authors and artists such as Teixeira de Pascoaes, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Arpad Szenes, Miguel Torga, Eugénio de Andrade, José Saramago, Agustina Bessa-Luís, Jorge de Sena, Herberto Helder and many others.
In addition to the testimonies provided by the inscriptions, these books kept within their pages dozens of unpublished manuscripts, correspondence, translations, essays and other materials.
By visiting the exhibition, you will get to know more about Sophia's life and work from her personal library, certainly made up of the books she liked and read the most.
An exhibition not to be missed, from the 25th of January to the 10th of March at the Biodiversity Gallery - Centro Ciência Viva, and throughout the year in other places to be announced soon.
