Porque o futuro se constrói no presente, a Bienal’25 Fotografia do Porto parte do mote AMANHÃ HOJE / TOMORROW TODAY para propor um programa de pensamento e ação que se inscreve no agora. AMANHÃ HOJE imagina um mundo mais regenerativo e interdependente, convocando práticas artísticas e colaborativas que interrogam o tempo presente e ensaiam futuros possíveis. A Bienal afirma-se, assim, como uma plataforma de estudo e experimentação, facilitadora de encontros entre artistas, curadores e organizações culturais, sociais e governamentais, no cruzamento entre investigação artística, prática curatorial e ação pública.
O programa organiza-se em torno de quatro plataformas interligadas — CONECTAR, SUSTENTAR, VIVIFICAR e EXPANDIR — que operam como zonas de ensaio para projetos expositivos, residências artísticas, investigações colaborativas e processos de mediação territorial. Através destas plataformas, a Bienal acolhe práticas que atravessam territórios urbanos e rurais, comunidades locais e redes internacionais, promovendo modos plurais de relação entre imagem, ecologia, tecnologia, afeto e memória. Entre gestos de escuta, dispositivos especulativos e pedagogias situadas, a Bienal’25 constrói um presente atento, consciente e comprometido com o que ainda está por vir.
Em particular, no âmbito da plataforma SUSTENTAR, que propõe uma reflexão sobre a sustentabilidade ecológica e social em quatro territórios distintos de Portugal, o MHNC-UP acolhererá, na Galeria da Biodiversidade – Centro Ciência Viva duas exposições:
- O projeto Práticas de um Arquivo Vivo, de Catarina Braga, desenvolvido na Casa de Mateus em diálogo com o projeto Escola das Transições, que traduz investigação científica em formas visuais digitais, revelando os enleios entre biodiversidade e tecnologia; e
- Um Lago Acima do Deserto, de Gonçalo C. Silva, que reflete sobre a convivência ambígua entre as dimensões natural e artificial no maior lago construído da Europa, onde linhas de vida submersas contrastam com a aridez induzida pelas alterações climáticas.
PRÁTICAS DE UM ARQUIVO VIVO

Na Casa de Mateus, o projeto Escola das Transições reúne diversos especialistas que desenvolvem propostas de ação transdisciplinar para a transição climática, na procura de sustentabilidade e equilíbrio simbiótico. A artista Catarina Braga acompanhou a investigação desenvolvida nesse laboratório vivo, e a partir de práticas de investigação científica, fez nascer imagens digitalmente manipuladas que interpretam a relação entre a biodiversidade local e a diversidade tecnológica.

UM LAGO ACIMA DO DESERTO

Em Um Lago Acima do Deserto, Gonçalo C. Silva reflete acerca da dicotomia entre a dimensão natural e artificial do maior lago artificial da Europa, o Alqueva. O projeto expõe o metafórico sistema vascular submerso que assegura a sobrevivência deste corpo. Esta criação é simultaneamente um olhar para as margens contrastantes, secas e áridas, alertando para o impacto das alterações climáticas neste território e a dependência de sistemas artificiais para enfrentar o futuro.

The future is shaped in the present. Bienal’25 Fotografia do Porto adopts the theme TOMORROW TODAY / AMANHÃ HOJE to advance a programme of critical reflection and situated action rooted in the now. TOMORROW TODAY imagines a more regenerative and interdependent world, calling for artistic and collaborative practices that engage with the urgencies of the present while rehearsing possible futures. The Bienal positions itself as a platform for study and experimentation, fostering encounters between artists, curators, and cultural, social, and governmental organisations at the intersection of artistic research, curatorial practice, and public engagement.
The programme is structured around four interconnected platforms — CONECTAR (to bridge, to exchange), SUSTENTAR (to sustain, to preserve), VIVIFICAR (to live, to stay), and EXPANDIR (to expand, to grow) — which serve as zones of enquiry for exhibitions, residencies, collaborative research, and territorial mediation. Through these platforms, the Bienal hosts practices that traverse rural and urban territories, local communities and international networks, advancing plural ways of engaging with image-making, ecology, technology, memory, and affect. Between gestures of listening, speculative approaches, and situated pedagogies, Bienal’25 Fotografia do Porto cultivates a present that is attentive, critical, and oriented towards what is yet to come.
Specifically in the scope of the platform SUSTENTAR, which investigates ecological and social sustainability across four distinct territories in Portugal, the MHNC-UP will host in the Hall of Biodiversity – Ciência Viva Center two exhibitions:
- Catarina Braga’s Practices of a Living Archive, developed at Casa de Mateus in dialogue with the School of Transitions project, which translates scientific research into digital visual forms, revealing the complex entanglements between biodiversity and technology; and
- Gonçalo C. Silva’s A Lake Above the Desert, which contemplates the uneasy coexistence of natural and artificial dimensions in Europe’s largest human- made lake, where submerged histories meet the advancing reality of climate-induced aridity.
