No fim de semana de 18 e 19 de Maio de 2019, assinalando o Dia Internacional dos Museus (DIM) e a Noite Europeia dos Museus (NEM), o MHNC-UP, em colaboração com o Clube Cactos e Suculentas Portugal, convida–o(a) a juntar a família e os amigos e a descobrir as atividades que terão lugar no Jardim Botânico do Porto e na Galeria da Biodiversidade – Centro Ciência Viva.

Explore os espaços e os seus conteúdos, colecione visitas e responda corretamente aos desafios que lhe serão colocados para se habilitar a ganhar pequenas lembranças de grandes experiências!
Do you know how many museums there are in the city of Porto? On this year’s International Museum Day, (re-)discover them by taking part in a fun museum peddy paper. Explore the spaces and their contents, collect visits and answer correctly to the challenges you will be presented with to get the chance to win small souvenirs of big experiences!

WORKSHOP O MEU SUBSTRATO É MELHOR QUE O TEU! / My potting mix is better than yours! || 14h00 – 15h00
Noções gerais sobre a composição de um substrato para cultivo. Panorâmica acerca da fisiologia da raiz e das necessidades nutricionais. Relação entre contentores, composição de substratos, clima e necessidades das plantas. O objetivo desta oficina é promover uma discussão aberta e de partilha de experiências sobre composição de substratos bem-sucedidos, recorrendo à observação de solos, compostos comerciais e outros substratos facilmente acessíveis. Serão sugeridas atividades simples que permitem determinar caraterísticas fundamentais de alguns substratos.
Understanding soil composition for cultivation. Overview of root physiology and nutritional needs. The relationship between containers, soil composition, climate and plant needs. The objective of this workshop is to promote an open discussion and share experiences on the composition of successful growing potting mixes by observing soils, marketed mixes and other substrates easily accessible. Activities will be suggested to determine the fundamental characteristics of some potting soil mixes.

WORKSHOP CATO OU SUCULENTA: QUEM SOU EU? |CACTUS OR SUCCULENT: WHO AM I? || 14h00 – 15h00
Sabias que… Os catos e as suculentas são plantas que habitam ambientes com pouca água, sendo designadas por plantas xerófitas? Algumas das adaptações destas plantas à escassez de água são as folhas reduzidas, os caules carnudos e as raízes longas. Nesta atividade vais poder observar a morfologia destas plantas, conhecer o seu habitat natural e estudá-las mais aprofundadamente com recurso ao microscópio ótico composto e à lupa binocular.
Did you know that… cactus and succulents are plants, known as xerophytic, which inhabit environments where water is scarce? Some of the adaptations of these plants to the shortage of water include smaller leaves, fleshy stems and long roots. In this activity you will be able to observe the morphology of these plants, get to know their natural habitat, and study them more thoroughly using the composite optical microscope and the binocular magnifying glass.

O Jardim Botânico do Porto apresenta uma rica coleção de plantas de todo o mundo. Em particular, o jardim dos catos e suculentas apresenta-se como um espaço único e com exemplares bastante curiosos. Nesta visita, poderá explorar uma grande diversidade florística de xerófitas. Entre catos, eufórbias e aloés, venha conhecer os espaços onde estes habitam e os exemplares de maior destaque no Jardim Botânico do Porto.

IN THE LAND OF SUCCULENTS – VISIT TO PORTO’S BOTANICAL GARDEN || 22h00 – 23h00
Porto’s Botanical Garden presents a rich collection of plants from all over the world. In particular, the garden of cactus and succulents presents itself as a unique space with very interesting specimens. During this visit you will have the chance to explore a wide diversity of xerophytes. Among cactus, euphorbias and aloes you will get to know the spaces where they inhabit and the most extraordinary specimens that exist in Porto’s Botanical Garden.

WORKSHOP SEMENTEIRA DE CATOS E SUCULENTAS | SOWING OF CACTUS AND SUCCULENTS || 14h00 – 15h00
Esta oficina pretende ser uma introdução aos processos fisiológicos e ecológicos que condicionam a germinação de uma semente e a como se pode potenciar as vantagens e contornar os problemas através da manipulação ambiental (solo, clima, luz, etc.). Os temas a abordar incluem: a anatomia de uma semente; fisiologia da germinação; dormência; substratos; fertilizantes; estratégias; e cuidados pós-germinação, a curto e médio prazo.
This workshop intends to be an introduction to the physiological and ecological processes that condition seed germination and on how to harness advantages and solve arising problems through environmental manipulation (soil, climate, light, etc.). Topics to be discussed include: the anatomy of a seed; physiology of germination; dormancy; potting soils; fertilizers; strategies; and post-germination care in the short and medium term.
