De 14 de novembro de 2023 a 2 de março de 2024, a Casa Comum da U.Porto acolhe a exposição Bonecos de Barcelos-Identidade, Tradição e Criação Artística. A inauguração terá lugar no dia 13 de novembro de 2023, pelas 18h00.
Em exposição conviverão uma seleção de peças das coleções dos Arquitetos Alexandre Alves Costa e Sergio Fernandez, doadas ao MHNC-UP em 2022, e representativas da arte popular barcelense entre as décadas de 1960 e 1970, e um conjunto de peças da coleção histórica do MHNC-UP, recolhidas nas décadas de 1930 e 1940.
Aqui poderemos encontrar diferentes visões sobre o valor representativo e simbólico do figurado. Onde alguns viam o seu brinquedo de infância, lembrança de feiras e romarias, outros viram o objeto de arte que convida à contemplação. Que aspeto tinha o galo de Barcelos original? Como era, realmente, a arte popular durante o Estado Novo? Qual o papel dos estudantes da Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto nesta descoberta? Uma visita imperdível que nos transportará através das várias leituras possíveis da arte popular.

From November 14, 2023 to March 2, 2024, Casa Comum hosts the exhibition Barcelos Figurines – Identity, Tradition and Artistic Creation. The opening will take place on November 13, 2023, at 18h00.
This exhibition brings us a selection of objects from the collections of Architects Alexandre Alves Costa and Sergio Fernandez, donated to the MHNC-UP in 2022, and representative of Barcelos’ popular art between the 1960s and 1970s, together with a set of objects from the MHNC-UP’s historical collection, collected in the 1930s and 1940s.
It reveals different views on the representative and symbolic value of the figurative art. Where some saw their childhood toy, a souvenir of fairs and pilgrimages, others saw a masterpiece that invites contemplation. What did the original Barcelos rooster look like? What was popular art really like during the Estado Novo regime? What role did the students at the Fine Arts School in Porto play in this revelation? This is an experience not to be missed, which will transport us through the various interpretations of popular art.
