MONOZIGÓTICOS: A DIFERENÇA NA IGUALDADE

De 2 de junho a 31 de agosto de 2023, o MHNC-UP acolhe no seu Polo Central a exposição Monozigóticos: a diferença na igualdade, com fotografia de Cláudia Rocha e coordenação científica de Alexandra Matias.
Esta exposição traz-nos uma seleção de fotografias que procuram ser a extensão artística e a tradução, em papel, da diferença na dualidade quase igual dos gémeos monozigóticos: o poder da cor a ilustrar a genética; a fotografia de autor a desenhar ciência com arte. Constituída por gémeos de diversas idades, a série fotográfica apresentada, explora a dinâmica entre irmãos e a sua relação ao longo do tempo. Os retratos mostram as diferentes personalidades, características físicas que os podem unir ou separar, dependendo do contexto familiar e das escolhas de vida. Através do olhar intimista da câmara, as fotografias questionam o que significa “ser gémeo” e qual o sentido do “eu” na relação entre irmãos: à primeira vista, parecem iguais, mas nem tudo o que parece é.
Este projeto nasce de uma colaboração entre Alexandra Matias, ginecologista e obstetra com subespecialidade em Medicina Fetal, Professora Catedrática da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto e autora do livro Developmental and fetal origins of differences in monozygotic twins: From Genetics to Environmental factors (2020), e a fotógrafa Cláudia Rocha, cujo trabalho desenvolvido nos últimos dez anos se tem focado em retratos e na procura do sentido individual de Identidade.

MONOZIGOTIC TWINS: SAME BUT DIFFERENT
June 2 to August 31, 2023 – Core Pole of the MHNC-UP
From the 2nd of June to the 31st of August 2023, the MHNC-UP will host, in its Core Pole, the exhibition Monozygotic Twins: Same but different, with photos by Cláudia Rocha and scientific coordination by Alexandra Matias.
This exhibition brings us a selection of photographs intended to be the artistic extension and translation, on paper, of the difference in the almost equal duality of monozygotic twins: the power of colour to illustrate genetics; the author’s photography to draw science with art. Consisting of twins of different ages, the photographic series presented seeks to explore the dynamics between siblings and their relationship over time. The portraits show different personalities and physical characteristics that can unite or separate them, depending on family context and life choices. Through the intimate gaze of the camera, the photographs question what it means to “be a twin” and what the sense of “self” is in the relationship between siblings: at first glance, they seem the same, but not everything is as it seems.
This project is born of a collaboration between Alexandra Matias, a gynaecologist and obstetrician with a subspecialty in Fetal Medicine, Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and author of the book Developmental and fetal origins of differences in monozygotic twins: From Genetics to Environmental factors (2020), and photographer Cláudia Rocha, whose work developed in the last ten years has focused on portraits and the search for individual identity.
