De 27 de outubro a 3 de dezembro de 2023, o MHNC-UP acolhe, na Galeria da Biodiversidade – Centro Ciência Viva, a exposição The Waterschool Classroom, organizada no âmbito da Porto Design Biennale.
A exposição The WaterSchool Classroom é dedicada à água em todas as suas facetas. Duas salas da Galeria da Biodiversidade serão transformadas num ‘Gabinete de Curiosidades’. Precursores dos museus atuais, estes gabinetes de curiosidades surgiram de colecionadores que recolhiam objetos e artefactos de várias vertentes artísticas, científicas e intelectuais para os expor lado a lado, ignorando qualquer categorização ou classificação. De natureza interativa e prática, estas coleções convidavam ativamente à exploração e à curiosidade, servindo simultaneamente para difundir um relato particular sobre o mundo e a sua história tal como imaginada pelo colecionador.
Dando continuidade a esta tradição, a exposição The WaterSchool Classroom apresenta uma grande variedade de obras de artistas, arquitetos e designers convidados, reunidas no quadro especulativo da WaterSchool. No âmbito da exposição, estas obras servem de ponto de partida para a conversa, com o objetivo de gerar debates sobre a forma como a habitação, a vida e o trabalho podem ser repensados e mesmo redesenhados tendo em conta a água e o seu impacto.

From October 27 to December 3, 2023, the MHNC-UP hosts, in the Hall of Biodiversity – Ciência Viva Center, the exhibition The Waterschool Classroom, organized in the scope of Porto Design Biennale.
The WaterSchool Classroom exhibition is dedicated to water in all its facets. Two rooms of the Hall of Biodiversity will be transformed into a ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’. Precursors of modern day museums, these cabinets of curiosities arose from collectors gathering objects and artefacts from many strands of artistic, scientific and intellectual endeavour in order to display them side by side ignorant of any categorisation or classification. Interactive and hands-on in nature, these collections actively invited exploration and curiosity, whilst simultaneously serving to tell a particular story about the world and its history as imagined by their collector.
Carrying on this tradition, The WaterSchool Classroom exhibition presents a wide variety of works by invited artists, architects and designers united within the speculative framework of the WaterSchool. Within the exhibition, these serve as conversation starters, in order to instigate discussions on how dwelling, living and working could be rethought and even redesigned bearing water and its impact in mind.
