Estudos científicos realizados em larga escala e reunindo dados globais mostram que a ação humana, em particular a que resulta na pesca intensiva, é um dos principais fatores de risco que comprometem a sobrevivência de diversas espécies de tubarões. Por todo o mundo, a comunidade científica tem vindo a mobilizar-se no sentido de estudar este fenómeno, descrevendo os comportamentos destes fascinantes animais que desempenham um papel ecológico chave e contribuindo para a delineação de medidas de conservação que permitam evitar a sua extinção.
Em novembro e dezembro, tendo a exposição “Sharks”, da National Geographic, como pano de fundo, o Museu de História Natural e da Ciência da Universidade do Porto, em colaboração com o Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos (CIBIO-InBIO), acolhe na Galeria da Biodiversidade – Centro Ciência Viva o ciclo de palestras “Tubarões – ecologia e evolução”. Ministradas por alguns dos mais conceituados especialistas mundiais no estudo destes animais, estas palestras vão dar a conhecer o estado da arte da investigação sobre os tubarões.
Large-scale scientific studies gathering global data show that human action, in particular intensive fishing, accounts for one of the major risk factors that compromise the survival of several shark species. Throughout the world, the scientific community has been actively studying this phenomenon, describing the behaviors of these fascinating animals that play a key ecological role, and contributing to the design of conservation measures to prevent their extinction.
In November and December, with National Geographic’s Sharks exhibition as a backdrop, the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto, in collaboration with the Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO-InBIO), hosts, at the Hall of Biodiversity, the seminar series “Sharks – ecology and evolution”. Led by some of the world’s leading experts in the study of these animals, these seminars will address key state of the art topics on shark research.
