Jardim Botânico do Porto

O Jardim Botânico da U. Porto integra o segundo polo do MHNC-UP, situado na antiga Quinta do Campo Alegre, no Porto. É um jardim com grande interesse botânico, histórico, artístico e literário, no qual sobressaem as intervenções do final do séc. XIX e da segunda metade do séc. XX e cuja história evoca importantes vultos da literatura portuguesa do século XX – Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen e Ruben A. O jardim enquadra a Galeria da Biodiversidade, um Centro Ciência Viva dedicado à divulgação das ciências biológicas, evolução e biodiversidade, e o E-Learning Café – Botânico da U.Porto.

Organiza-se no relevo em três patamares com caraterísticas muito distintas. No primeiro patamar situam-se os bosquetes da entrada, a Galeria da Biodiversidade, rodeada por uma bordadura mista de espécies autóctones, e os jardins formais, compartimentados por altas sebes de camélias centenárias: o Jardim dos Jotas, o Roseiral, o Jardim do Rapaz de Bronze, o Jardim do Xisto, o Jardim do Peixe, o Jardim dos Anões e o Jardim do Liquidâmbar. No segundo patamar, encontram-se o Jardim dos Catos e Suculentas e as estufas. O terceiro patamar, a cotas mais baixas, acolhe o Arboreto, a presa e o lago grande.

UM POUCO DE HISTÓRIA

No Jardim Botânico do Porto, os visitantes poderão participar em visitas guiadas individuais ou para grupos. Regularmente são organizadas atividades diversificadas dirigidas a todos os segmentos do público, incluindo atividades práticas pensadas para o público mais jovem.

Porto’s Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden of the University of Porto is part of the second pole of the MHNC-UP, located in the old Quinta do Campo Alegre in Porto. It is a garden of great botanical, historical, artistic and literary interest, in which the interventions of the late 19^th century and the second half of the 20^th century stand out and whose history evokes important figures of 20^th century Portuguese literature – Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Ruben A. The garden houses the Hall of Biodiversity – Ciência Viva Center, a space dedicated to the promotion of scientific culture in the scope of the biological sciences, evolution and biodiversity; and Casa Salabert, which harbours U.Porto’s E-Learning Café – Botânico.

It is organized in three levels with very different characteristics. On the first level, there are the entrance bosquets, the Hall of Biodiversity – Ciência Viva Center, surrounded by a mixed border of native species, and the formal gardens, compartmentalized by tall hedges of centenary camellias: the Garden of Jotas, the Rose Garden, the Bronze Boy Garden, the Schist Garden, the Fish Garden, the Dwarf Garden and the Liquidambar Garden. On the second level are the Cactus and Succulent Garden and the greenhouses. The third, and lowest, level houses the Arboretum, the little reservoir and the large lake.

At the Botanical Garden of the University of Porto, visitors can take part in guided tours for individuals and groups. And a wide range of activities intended for all population segments is regularly promoted, including hands-on activities targeting a younger audience.
