Polo Central
É no Polo Central do MHNC-UP, localizado no coração da Baixa Portuense, que estão concentradas as suas coleções históricas, as quais surgem com a criação das primeiras aulas públicas de ensino de Náutica (1762) e Debuxo e Desenho (1779), que constituem os antecedentes da U. Porto. Ao longo do tempo, coleções de geologia, paleontologia, zoologia, arqueologia e etnografia, botânica e ciência multiplicaram-se na sua tipologia e diversidade, constituindo-se como o resultado de dois séculos e meio de aquisições para os núcleos museológicos de faculdades e departamentos, recolhas para o desenvolvimento de atividades pedagógicas, colheitas para investigação, e incorporação de doações/legados cedidos por colecionadores ou pelas respetivas famílias.

O Polo Central do MHNC-UP está atualmente a ser sujeito a uma profunda intervenção de reabilitação, não só ao nível da requalificação infraestrutural, mas também no que diz respeito ao tratamento e reacondicionamento das suas coleções e à redefinição do seu discurso museográfico. Enquanto este processo decorre, serão acolhidas nos espaços já renovados exposições temporárias que convidamos todos a descobrir.
O Polo Central do MHNC-UP acolhe o Laboratório Ferreira da Silva, um espaço emblemático na histórica da química em Portugal, renovado em conformidade com o estilo que detinha nas décadas de 30 e 40 do século XX e perfeitamente funcional. Aquele que é o primeiro espaço do Polo Central reabilitado no contexto do projeto de reconstrução do MHNC-UP a abrir ao público, será palco das mais diversas e apelativas atividades educativas e culturais.

Core Pole
The Museum’s historical collections that originally come about along with the creation of the first public Nautical Class (1762) and Sketching and Drawing Class (1779), which have been in the origin of U.Porto, are located in its Core Pole, which sits precisely at the heart of Porto’s most touristic district. Along the years, collections of geology, paleontology, zoology, ethnography and archaeology, botany and science have expanded in type, range and diversity, now standing as the result of two and a half centuries of acquisitions for the University’s faculties and departments, collection for the development of educational and research activities, and incorporation of donations/legacies offered by collectors and their families.

The Core Pole is currently undergoing a deep rehabilitation intervention, not only at an infrastructural level, but also involving the treatment and accommodation of its collections and the redefinition of its museographic discourse. While this process unfolds, it will host temporary exhibitions, that everyine is invited to discover.
The Core Pole of the MHNC-UP harbours the Ferreira da Silva Laboratory, an emblematic space in the history of chemistry in Portugal, renovated in accordance with the style it held in the 30s and 40s of the 20th century and perfectly functional. This is the first space in the Core Pole rehabilitated in the context of the MHNC-UP’s reconstruction project to open to the public. And it will be the stage for the most diverse and appealing educational and cultural activities.
